Oops I did it again!

No that was referring to my weak mental strength and resilience when it comes to attempting to resist desserts.

Not being able to forget the sweet pleasure and sensationw which engulfed me when I was eating the banana fritters with coconut ice cream two sundays ago at Thai Express, I went back there last friday with LS and ordered, guess what? The banana fritters with coconut ice cream! Lol...

So it was last friday when LS and I went to Lido to catch Spiderman 3. First about the movie... Hmm... well I wouldn't day it was a bad show but with the all the hype created and with the very promising trailer, I would have expected something better. Don't get me wrong, it was lacking anything. It was in fact, over-saturated with plots, (new) characters, fighting scenes (ok, gotta love fighting scenes, a lot is good...). It just made me feel like too much was happening.

There was Topher Grace as the wannabe-photog for the paper, and then getting humiliated by Toby Maguire when his fake photo of Spiderman stealing something I think was exposed to the Boss and he was thus fired, and along with it a building frustration and hatred and a yearning for revenge takes over. And he so conveniently is at the right place at the right time when Maguire rips off his Venom suit only to allow the particles to drip downwards and onto Grace who subsequently becomes Spidey's evil twin brother, Venom.

Then we also have, as a nother villain, Thomas Hayden Church as a runaway convict who escapes from jail, presumably from being linked to a bank robbery cum death of an old man who was at the scene, who, gasps, conveniently turns out to be Uncle Ben, Maguire's dead uncle! So it so happens that Church was running away from the cops and so happens to find himself climbing over a wired, barbed fence (with no bruises or cuts whatsoever) and he so happens to turn his head backwards as he misses his step and falls into a sand pit where the Institute of Quantum whatever happens to be running an experiment and he happens to get sucked and demoleculerised and transforms into the shapeshifting sandman! Talk about dreams coming true... And he so happens to need to get money for his daughter who is terminally ill and needs money for treatment and so he goes around robbing banks.

And then we have the New Goblin, played by Franco, who if you remember, has accused Parker of killing his father the Green Goblin in the previous installments of the movie. And when he engages Parker in a fierce fighting sequence flying and whizzing through the streets, he happens to get "tripped" by Parker's line (so kiddsh but hey it worked!) and goes into temp memory loss... and so he forgets the feud and readily accept Parker's and Dunst's (Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson) friend ship as per those good ol' high school days. And he so happens to regain his memory so quickly that Parker does not even know it yet (probably cause he's too busy fighting off Sandman) and thus allowing Franco to sabotage Parker's and Dunst's evry fragile, very on-and-off relationship.

And then we have Bryce Dallas Howard (did I get the order right?) who plays Gwen who Parker happens to save from a collapsing building and who happens to be the Police Force Mayor's daughter and thus they throw a Spidey- Day thingy parade for him. And this angers Dunst as she is struggling with her own issues about fame and popularity after being cut from her theare production.

We also see Parker getting transformed into evil Spiderman (with the balck spandex suit and all) after a meteorite conveniently crashes into the park near where Parker and Dunst where making out and which follows Parker home. But we are also treated to a funnier side of the show when Parker attempts to act cool and John Travolta-like when he goes shopping downtown and trying to impress the passers-by chicks with his hip thrusting gyrations, only to receive "What the hell is he doing" stares back from these chicks.

So anyway, with all that's happening, it all culminates in one final battle where the SAndman and Venom has tagged-team to finish Parker off. There's all these effects which probably add up to the estimated $30 billion cost spent on the show. And as usual, the protagonist wins it all, with his leading lady in his rams as the sun rises in the sky and a brand new day begins.....

One big issue I have is the hype the show created about "The Greatest Battle Lies Within". To be honest, the show did not really talk much about this "battle within" as much as I would have liked it to, plus it would probably give Maguire a chance for an Oscar if they had allowed him more screen time for his character development what with all the internal struggles. But, with so much happening in the movie, it's no wonder Maguire has not so much time and attention for himself unlike the previous 2 instalments. The greatest battle then I would say for audiences watching the show in cinemas would be to stay silent and still and try very hard to follow the twists and turns in the plot a la a spider web (or go study one if it helps), which obviously was a very hard battle to win for a very noisy group of caucasian kids who laughed when Maguire was crying and who made so much noise rustling about. I give it 3 stars. :)

Phew, after that long tirade I'm gettign tired (is it any wonder lol). As sual slakcing it out at home,a nd also preparing to pack my stuff for a 8 day long holiday I'm embarking on next Sunday night (well technically Monday morning cause the flight's at 1 am), all thanks to SIA's 60th anniversary promotion aloowing for such cheap flights to 6 destinations, of which we picked Perth! Really hope to have a blast of a good time there, and bring back many picture-perfect phots and memories!

Ciao!
