I wanted to blog so badly last night upon returnign home but my eyes wanted to shut so badly last night sue to weariness.... and my eyes won la.

So anyway here I am now. After a long tiring morning of replying to PSC's long list of qns and also trying to think of qns to ask CPF during my interview with them this coming Friday.

So anyway, yesterday's fatigue work ended real late and I got home totally exhausted cuz as usual it involves a lot of manual labour. And yes, I have decided not to use the term sai-gang anymore, thanks to staff vincent who gave a long preaching, and also thanks to the wonderful officers and specs in the air force.

It was wonderful doing the work yesterday because of two words: Recognition and Appreciation.

Yes. The officers there actually came up to us at the end of the whole combined mess event (where all the air force lao jiaos gathered for beer, chatting and dinner/snacks... and yes by lao jiaos I mean all the crabs and stars. So many LTCs and COLs lor... and I even saw 2 BGs and the CAF who is a 2 star GEN) and THANKED us for our hard work. Ya, it was easy to spot us because the whole night we were the only ones opening doors for distinguished ppl, slogging behind the bar counter to wash used mugs and cups and help the bar girls serve drinks, collecting empty mugs/cups and returning to bar, cleaning up the rubbish at the tables etc...

Ya, you read right. They thanked us. The warrant officers and captains came upt o us, gave us a pat on the back and shook our hands saying, "Thanks guys, good job. Thanks for all ur hard work."

I felt so appreciated then I dunno how to describe.

Back at Tekong where got such thing? The instructors there expect u to do "work" and take it for granted, even always scolding u for being slow.

A world of difference I say.

I am so proud of the Air Force instructors because they recognise that "The commanders provide the direction, the men provide the thrust." Without the men, the SAF would collaspe.

And because of their attitude towards us, I found a whole new great sense of respect for the instructors in the Air Force. They truly epitomise who the ideal SAF instructor should be.

And so, I now serve with a very open and proud heart. I hope that the instructors in the Army will also be like their counterparts in the Air Force, because they will not only make the SAF a better organisation, they will also INSPIRE their men to want to serve their nation with all their heart and soul. Like this, no one, or at least significantly less ppl, will complain about NS.

Maybe this is just me having a visionary and idealistic view of things, but I definitely think there is some truth to it.
